Letter, 1927 May 11 : Fargo, N.D. to a Mr. Lutz.

Mr. Stimmel is responding to a letter from a Mr. Lutz, (address unknown), apparently a fellow soldier in the Civil War. He documents his life since the Civil War and gives a list of surviving "U.L.G." men. The letter was written on Grand Army of the Republic stationery for which Stimmel was National Patriotic Instructor.

Smith Stimmel was born Dec. 17, 1842 in Franklin County, Ohio. During the Civil War he served in the 85th Ohio Volunteer Infantry and later President Lincoln's bodyguard.
